ANDREAS KRONTHALER FOR VIVIENNE WESTWOOD FALL WINTER 2018 COLLECTION – PARIS FASHION WEEK
Dear Vivienne,
God how long we have known each other! How wonderful. I want to pay homage to you as my collaborator, my friend and partner, my teacher and of course as my muse.
After examining myself, I felt like looking at you and the different decades of your life in fashion and what it means to me. It started with the 70s – Teddy boy tailoring, the 50s flower wallpaper and carpet from Let It Rock shop in the King’s Road and of course the rubber clothes which I Love so much.
Right in the middle of the 80s is your (Mini) Crini – Girl, which is made in Vivienne red Harris Tweed transferred into today. The 90s are represented through Dior-esque tailoring and exaggerated shapes, the hair print and the Krall shirt, which to this day we still make. Next comes UNISEX.
The white dresses at the end are sustainable, made from old stock and leftovers. There are two garments I copied: One is the mohair punk sweater you made (Knitted) for yourself and which says so much about you. Second is the catsuit from Sara (Stockbridge) which you used to wear when I first met you.
When in doubt: Dress up! One should never see the brain working in what you wear and one dresses in order to be eventually naked. These mantras of yours and so much more became part of my life and work. I still think to this day that you are the best dressed woman in any room.

My pack of playing cards, we’re releasing one a week, we started with the ace of spades. Everything’s connected, you can collect them like football cards; it is also a plan of action, a survey map. If we connect the dots, we can win the fight for the free world, first step: Switch to Green Energy Supplier.
- We have a print using all four symbols.
We will begin with natural white covered with rainforest print – small black circles looking like a spotty animal print but which are really meant to be the noughts which endlessly multiply money by 10 over and over. We only need a few to Save the Rainforest but billions disappear every day in global inflation. Other graphics will be in the form of texts – black on natural white.
We will add separate pieces to these basic looks: No fashion theme – just half dressed. Perhaps a shirt which in one go shows you the most shirtlikeshirt: Platonic! Silly? You will see the jacket which says jacket, the most dynamic jacket, a joke of jeans, the universal shortest trouser, a gesture of as weater; the most sexy dress, should it be worn on the oldest person in the world on top of a net t-shirt. The dress has a cave print of hunter gatherers, moving across the land, following the reindeer. Will we survive our evolution. Don’t panic.

The show we present in London Menswear fashion week is for man and woman. A lucky young woman, she comes from a privileged part of thè world where she’s been well cared for by loving parents. She’s intellectual, artistic, and adventurous. Let’s hope thè bloke had thè same chance in life. They love our clothes; we’re a high fashion company – a happy company. It’s skilled, labour intensive, rather artisan; one of its features is that through our cutting principles we mass produce clothes that look couture. She and he are having fun with Unisex and swapping clothes. ‘Buy less, choose well, make it last’ limits thè exploitation of thè planet’s naturai resources. He and she have joined Intellectuals Unite (IOU) and are becoming ever more scared of Climate Change. Our hair stands on end. We wear a paper crown. Who are our rulers? We don’t accept thè rule of thè million, we want people power / democratic rule. We want a responsible govemment, responsible to people, not only responsible to banks and conglomerate monopolies. Monday, 8 September, 2014 is the date the “Yes” vote for Scottish Independence tipped over into the lead in the polls. I am so excited, fingers crossed they’ll win. Because, if they do, it could be the turning point towards a better world. They could lead by example.
Scottish Independence could be a great day for Democracy. They already have a more democratic financial system, e.g. no tuition fees, and they care more for people.
They just wouldn’t do what we’re doing in England. In London they are pulling down council flats and building luxury apartments. They plan 200 more high rise luxury apartments – for speculators.
In England there is hardly any democracy left. The government does what it wants. That which should belong to people – it gives it all to business, e.g. they’re prepared to poison our water so that businesses can frack.
The most important thing I have to say is that after 300 years, the capitalist system is now at an end. It’s over. Yet the English government – all main parties – want to drag us down with it. We want Scotland to break the deadlock and march into the future.
We English have to fight our government. You, Scotland, can have the government you want.
