Our daytime Dames-Masculines arrives walking with sinuous swaggers thank to ultra tight mid length skirts. Fabrics carry a masculine air; tweed, pinstripes and wool. Apart from the occasional electric primary, the colors have been gently dusted down; Pink blushes, mossy greens, dark sages, smoky lavenders and nutty taupes set the tone. Hardwearing cloths are made luxurious with a rushed edging that’s threaded throughout the collection. Carefully placed touches of tortoise-shell, girly pouf bow ties, detachable pins, bejeweled buttons and glittering adornments make this daywear rich. Silk and camisole lace play peek-a-boo as undergarments beneath the rigid tailoring of these classic 40s silhouettes.
A boyish ‘Jazz Pant’ appears with a wide leg that slips down the tight to below the shoe. These trousers carry a marked waistband that lazily slouches accidentally-on-purpose off the hip, a fit that has been precisely considered to give these retro-dames a decidedly dynamic air. The pants come paired with the female version of the double breasted, Finely cut yet unlined Napoli Jackets, made by a men’s tailor and fitted for a woman’s body.
The final touch are layered crumpled socks and nylons that dip into shoes that carry those chunky heels reminiscent of dance shoes from the 40s. The bag accessory is a simple Port Perry with “boomerang” lines, in either astrakhan fur, patent leather or in the smoothest of satins.
The hats in this collection are a mix of the best retro Americana and Parisian styles from the early 20th century; The western-style ten gallon fedora, stolen from the boyfriend and a set of ‘cutie-pie’ berets in feathers and felt are easily recognizable, but watch out for the part baseball mesh net and part house turban, because it’s here that Dean and Dan have broken the mould.
There is a gasp as the evening’s enchantresses enter. All wear a ‘slip-of-a thing’; Floor length dresses, made up of webs of intricate tendrils that swirl about their contours. From these vines spring newborn leaves that are gently sprinkled with showers of diamante raindrops. These ladies of the night float forward in a froth of delicate lace. In a mist of ostridge feathers or on pillows of soft downy mink ripples. The are visions of pure sumptuousness, glamour and desirability.

For the Fall/Winter 2012 advertising campaign, Dsquared2 made its debut with its first short movie entitled “The Substitutes”.
The video was shot through the creative lenses of Mert Alas & Marcus Piggot, starring Dean and Dan and the models Benedikt Angerer, Simon Van Meervenne, Liuk Bass, Ralf Javoiss, Daphne Groeneveld, Frida Aasen, Bette Franke; also featuring Eric and Joan Ribera as “bellhops” and Ratka Mayor as “the teacher’.
The models play the part of bored high school students IN CLASS. The attention of the unruly pupils is grasped by the unexpected arrival of two one of a kind substitutes, Dean and Dan, who start an unconventional lesson that wins over everyone except one person in particular….
The soundtrack is the 1960s pop tune “The Clapping Song” by Shirley Ellis.

PROM NIGHT
With the FW 2012/13 collection the designers make a plunge into the past as they look back at their senior year prom. Every girl in high school dreams about being perfect on prom night. An enchanting evening filled with preparations, sequin, flowers, music and the nervous excitement to find out who will be crowned prom queen.
Queen for one night, the Dsquared2 girl remains true to her roots and her rebel spirit. Despite the crown, she is not ready to trade in her “bad attitude” as she dares to mix denim with embroidered garments.
For the occasion, the Dsquared2 girl loots her mother’s sophisticated wardrobe without forgetting the precious vintage jewellery box. Elegant furs, colourful coats, crocodile jackets, flowing dresses and most importantly diamonds and precious stones.
Narrow and cropped pants, pencil skirts, long evening dresses and cocoon coats give a more curvy touch to the silhouette.
Opposites are brought together by an irresistible attraction: lace and gold damask prints mix with denim; while precious crocodile skins are embellished by soft mink furs.
Mama bags: elegant bags with a vintage feel. Precious accessories at the crossroads between the present and the past. The shapes are reminiscent of the 1950s while the super accessorized inside of the purse with iPad and iPhone pockets immediately bring us back to the present.
Cat eye inspired elongated sunglasses with a “glazed” aspect, toped with diamond sprinkles, seem to have been stolen from a cupcake shop.
Couture baseball caps and striped rugby-inspired scarves in mink, of course. Killer Cinderella shoes and “Leopearls” decolté.
Bows, bows and of course more bows.
Colours are reminiscent of marshmallows, pastel corsages or the prom punch: mint green, sunflower yellow, baby blue, coral and bright red.

“NAUGHTY STUDENTS OR BAD TEACHERS?”
The FW 2012/13 Dsquared² collection is inspired by University students and in particular by one special kind of student: GOOD FAMILY, BAD REPUTATION!
Radical chic party boys from high society, foul-mouthed bourgeois students who work real hard on having a good time. Boys who spend more time on their clothes than on books but that is no big deal since they will graduate no matter what.
The Dsquared² boy certainly doesn’t excel at school but he is definitely the coolest one on campus.
This time around, the silhouette is the novelty. Very low-waist slim cut trousers that create a “bottle silhouette”: very tight pants, tighter than ever, fitted around the knee and slightly wider at the bottom are paired with short, tight jackets.
Once again, layering is key; layers on top of layers to fight the cold but most importantly because every detail is meticulously chosen after hours of study; outside the library of course…
New classic: argyle sweaters or in brushed mohair, turtlenecks, tweed jackets and tuxedo jackets paired with washed denim, military mods-style parkas reminiscent of student strikes…
Classic pieces are customized with markers, and a variety of studs (stars, labels, maple leafs,..) randomly found from old Dsquared² jackets, reused to personalize garments.
Boobou jackets in oiled fabric or suede with large pockets that always come in handy.
Accessories: “woody” eyewear glasses in transparent plastic and wood for the “perfect” student; without forgetting fun sunglasses to hide dark circles after a wild on-campus party.
Scarves, gloves and a military beret with a leather visor.
Vintage-like suede pointed or round tip ankle boots, in brown or grey, in leather or patent leather.
The colour palette: beige, camel, military green, denim blue, grey, black with glimpses of red and white.

DSQUARED2 DEANDANSBURY ROCK SUMMER FESTIVAL 2012
From London to Glastonbury, Dsquared²’s American boy decides to follow his English lover to the Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts before going back home to the United States.
Rock chicks and boho-hippies, muses of a new shabby chic couture, move to the beat of music on a runway covered with mud, strongly evocative of this epic music festival.
Utility jackets, men’s shirts, tribal chic long dresses with raffia embroidery, denim hot pants, waterproof parkas and rain boots take the stage. Wild chicks rock out by mixing style indie inspired pieces together with indie and grunge elements: a unique “very Glasto-style”.
Prints and fabrics: sparkly animal prints and the American flag.
Lengths: extremely short or extremely long.
Accessories: festival wrist bands, colorful cotton foulards, “flappies” hats (Seventies) or masculine ones, mirrored shades in flashy colors, fringes, fringes and once again more fringes on gilets, jackets and on the strap of The Manitoba, Dsquared2’s new it bag.
Shoes: Versatile cheerful heel rainboots for the day and night, all made of rubber and treated to have a particular mud-like effect. A similar treatment was created for the jean fabrics custom made for Madonna’s “Drowned World Tour” in 2001.
Colors: vivid and crazy just like the crowd! Banners, ribbons and curtains wave to the sound of rock. Yellow, orange, magenta, purple, turquoise and grass green. As drops of rain start to hit the stage and the grass, the greens become browns. It’s raining but who cares: We ♥ MUD!

An American tourist arrives in Europe tagged Dsquared2 and decides to go around the old continent during the summer, a journey with four stops from Scandinavia to London, passing through the sunny island of Mykonos and the magnificent city of Florence. He doesn’t have much luggage but what he does have with him has been carefully chosen. Easy to mix pieces that can be worn in every latitude and temperature.
For his stay in Scandinavia, the Dsquared2 American adopts a sporty look, easily layering multi-colored garments to protect himself from the wind: light waterproof jackets, colorful knitted sweaters and hats, trousers up to the ankle with thick socks and colorful boots.
Change of scenery and wardrobe: the tourist Dsquared2 turns up on the beaches of Mykonos Greece, here he becomes sexy and more summer-like. Exploding colors: hot pants, swim wear, beach towels, caps and colorful flip-flops.
Next stop Florence: the tourist visits the city on a Vespa and takes on a more Italian look, refined and chic tailored suits, double breasted jackets, ankle length pants and handmade leather sandals.
The Dsquared2 traveller reaches London, the last leg of his journey and takes on a more contemporary mod look, neat and stylish, with more of a rock n’roll feel. Skinny silhouettes, studs, leather, and a touch of animal prints ..
